Original Newspapers (and Facsimiles), circa 1773-1986 and undated

This series contains newspapers dating from 1773-1986. The oldest newspaper title included in this series is an eighteenth-century facsimile of the Maryland Journal and Baltimore Advertiser, originally released August 20, 1773, while the most recent is a News American issue dated May 19, 1986. Retained in the series are early newspaper titles, as well as newspapers that have significant headlines concerning world and national and state events such as World War II, the moon landing, the Vietnam War and the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy and Senator Robert Kennedy. Additionally, the series contains newspaper titles concerning the city of Baltimore, the state of Maryland, the Preakness, the Baltimore Colts and the Baltimore Orioles. The series is arranged in two sub-series: original newspapers (106 items) and facsimiles of newspaper sheets (107 manifestations). Then, it is arranged in alphabetical order by the title of the newspaper, then by the date, and then when necessary in alphabetical order by the title of the newspaper headline. The unidentified newspaper title is located at the end of the series. Most of the items in this series are cross-listed and stored physically within the Original Newspaper collection.
