News Clippings, 1893-1986 and undated, bulk: 1893-1971
This series features facsimiles of a selection from the newspaper clippings files. The News American library clipped articles from their own and other newspaper titles, arranged these clippings in six-by-four inch envelopes, and then stored them in large metal filing drawers. Some of the oldest clippings (beginning in 1893) were selected for photographic reproduction by University of Maryland archivists. While a card catalog for the entirety of the earliest clippings is still extant, a "clippings database" supersedes this card catalog and provides access to the dates, subjects, and number of photocopied clippings within each group of photocopied clippings. Please contact the appropriate curator for more information. The original clippings file (clip morgue) is no longer accessible.
In 2018, the University of Maryland, College Park received a transfer from the Special Collections department of the Albin O. Kuhn Library and Gallery, University of Maryland, Baltimore County including 33 Hollinger boxes of newspaper clippings. These materials remain unprocessed and do not appear in the database.
