Libertytown Store Ledgers, 1855-1861
The store ledgers contains the date, the name of the account holder, a number which is possibly their account number, the name of the purchaser (if different than the account holder), the item and quantity bought and the cost. The storekeeper also noted when a customer was African American by writing "cold" (for "colored") next to their name. The ledger is an important resource for genealogy in Frederick County, especially for free African-Americans living in the Oldfield community, including members of the Todd, Jackson, Costly, Johnson, and Key families.
