Steele Family Correspondence, 1823-1859

This series consists of correspondence to and from four generations of the Steele family, beginning with Sarah Ennals Nevett Murray (1751-1837), her daughters Mary Nevitt Steele (1769-1836), Catherine Rush and Sally Scott Lloyd (1775-1854, her granddaughters Catherine Steele Ray (1801-1891), Mary Steele Henry (1789-1873), Elizabeth Lloyd Winder (1800-1880) and Sarah Lloyd Lowndes (1805-1880) and her great granddaughters Katherine Ray Hurlbut (1834-1910), Virginia Upshur Lloyd (1812-1843), Laura Upshur Bowdoin (1816-1898) and Emily Upshur (1817-1878). These families and their correspondents resided in Annapolis, Baltimore, the Eastern Shore of Maryland, Virginia and other areas. Materials are arranged alphabetically by recipient and then alphabetically by sender.
