Correspondence from J. Pennington to John Clayton, 1846

This series consists of correspondence between J. Pennington, a solicitor and trustee based in Baltimore, and John Clayton, Mrs. Catherine Comegys’ solicitor from Philadelphia. The subject matter concerns a claim against the heirs of the late Cornelius Comegys for a debt on a mortgaged property he owned in Baltimore. Reference is made to Mrs. Comegys, her three grown daughters and their husbands (Mr. and Mrs. Gilmer, Mr. and Mrs. Mason, and Mr. and Mrs. Sargent), her son Jacob Comegys and his wife Sara (S.P. Comegys) as well as Mr. Pettis and Mr. Chase. The correspondence is arranged in chronological order.
