Notebooks, 1890-1937

 Series 1

This series contains two notebooks which were used by surveyors John Edgar Zug and John Zug, Jr. to make notes and drawings while surveying land in Bowie, Maryland. John Edgar Zug at various times employed several different assistants in his work, including his son, Harry Sansbury, James Thirles, Paul Watts, Johny Fat, Jeff Bowie, Lewis Brooks, and Solomon Ross. The first book contains entries dated from August 28, 1890 to November 26, 1891 and October 22, 1920 to May 15, 1922. The book also contains a partial map of Bowie pasted in at the back.

The second book contains entries date from December 4, 1922 to October 4, 1923, with one later entry from September 3, 1937. The second book also includes several pages of genealogical information about the descendants of Robert Sewall (c. 1765-1820) and Polly Brant (c. 1772-1822).
