Biographical / Historical
Ani Durst, a carpenter, was a member of an organization called “Women Working in Construction,” which filed a lawsuit against the Department of Labor charging discrimination in hiring of women and minorities on job sites receiving Federal funds. Ani Durst was one of four named plaintiffs in the case. The lawsuit was handled by the League of Women Voters on a pro bono basis and eventually resulted in the creation of the Department of Labor’s goals and timetables for women and minorities on job sites receiving Federal funds as well as in Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training (BAT) programs.
