Biographical / Historical

Beverly M. Coleman (January 9, 1899 - August 1, 1993) was born and raised in Washington, D.C. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in Maryland in 1922. He served in the Navy for two years and remained in the Reserve status until 1940. At the time, he attended George Washington University Law School and opened his own practice. During the Occupation, Coleman was asked to serve on the military commission, acting as Chief of the War Crimes Defense section. After the war crime trials, Coleman returned to the Navy, reaching the rank of Rear Admiral, and worked for the Legal Section in Tokyo.
