Biographical / Historical

Stanley Falk (1926-1997) joined the Army in 1945 and was sent to Japan in June of 1946. Falk used his Army Japanese Language Program training at the University of Michigan to work as a language officer for the Allied Translator Interpreter Section (ATIS). After leaving ATIS, Falk worked in the Historical Office in Tokyo under MacArthur. Once he returned to the U.S. as a civilian, he eventually became the Air Force chief historian.
