Biographical / Historical
Sherwood Fine (1914- 2000) was born in New York City and stayed in New York through college, earning a PhD in economics in 1943. During the war, Fine was in Turkey working with the Office of Strategic Services. After the war, he served as economics and planning director under General Douglas MacArthur where he had tasks including economic advisor to the Foreign Trade Section. Returning to the U.S. after the Occupation, Fine kept government jobs and later taught economics at multiple universities. He passed away in Virginia in November of 2000.
