Biographical / Historical

Grant Goodman (1924-2014) was born in Cleveland, Ohio. He was attending Princeton University when WWII broke out. Goodman entered the U.S. Army for the Intensive Japanese Language School to work in Military Intelligence. Goodman interrogated Japanese prisoners and worked as worked with the GHQ on the terms of surrender for Japan. He worked with translation and had some work with the War Crimes Trials. He worked in Tokyo in SCAP during the Occupation. When Goodman was discharged a year after arriving in Tokyo, he returned to the U.S. He later became a professor at the University of Kansas to teach Asian studies. He passed away at the age of 90.
