Biographical / Historical
Marius Jansen (April 1, 1922 – December 10, 2000) was born in Holland and grew up in Massachusetts. During the war, Jansen joined the Army and when the occupation began, he was sent to Okinawa, Japan with the Counterintelligence Unit and reported intelligence information to the headquarters. After his year in Japan, Jansen returned to the U.S. and earned his PhD. and taught History and Oriental Studies at Princeton. He went on to continue his career as a professor of East Asian Studies Princeton until his retirement in 1992. He passed away in New Jersey in 2000 at the age of 78.
