Biographical / Historical

Bert Johnson was born in Lillington, North Carolina, in 1909 and lived there through college at the University of North Carolina. He was asked by the War Department in 1948 to go to Japan to help the Japanese School Board with co-ed schooling after the war. In the four months he was in Japan, Johnson created a manual to help calm opposition to co-ed reform. After his time in Japan, Johnson returned to the United States, where he continued to teach secondary education.
