Biographical / Historical
Evelyn Whitney (May 19, 1900 - December 24, 1991) was born in New York City and grew up in Washington, D.C., where she met U.S. Army Major General Courtney Whitney at a young age. The two married when Evelyn was 18. Courtney Whitney was an Army Commander during World War II and a senior official during the Occupation, working alongside General Douglas MacArthur. After the birth of their first son, the couple lived in Manila, where Courtney was stationed. After the birth of their second son, the Whitneys moved back to the U.S. and then to Japan for the Occupation, where they remained from 1946 to 1951. Courtney passed away in 1969. Evelyn Whitney passed away at age 91.
