IUMSWA New England Regional Office-Boston, Massachusetts, 1938-1950
This series documents the role of the regional office in the union's hierarchy and in particular its role as liaison between locals and the national office. It includes correspondence, local files, materials relating to the Progressive Metalworkers Council locals and United Railroad Workers of America locals, organizers reports, and regional office meeting minutes. There is a significant amount of material in this series from several of the locals in the Boston area, in particular Locals 5 and 25, including agreements, National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) case files, and strike materials; several items from Local 5 are in Italian. This series also contains some materials from Pettis' predecessor, Bill Smith, who was Regional Director from 1943 to 1945.
