Bomb-damaged building with scaffolding in Tokyo, June 4, 1947
Bomb-damaged building being rebuilt, with bamboo scaffolding surrounding the outside walls. Description provided by photographer Roy Simonson reads: "The mats of rice straw and the scaffolding of bamboo poles around a bomb-damaged building right next to the Imperial Hotel, Tokyo. Some of the larger mats are of bamboo canes. Scaffolding is fastened together with rope made from rice straw."
