Landscape of floodplain with bridge and adjacent uplands, April 13, 1948

 Item — Box: 1, item: H-77

Description provided by photographer Roy Simonson reads: "The floodplain and mouth of a small stream and the adjacent uplands immediately south of the village of Miyagi, a short way east of Kawata which lies east-southeast across the island from Shana Wan. The paddies with the established seedlings in the foreground are on Akamaru loam. Beyond them in the floodplain are bodies of Shioya loamy sand in crops and beach sand which is idle. The bordering... terraced uplands in sweet potatoes and soybeans are Red-Yellow Podzolic soils, whereas the wooded face is Lithosols. The road and bridge are part of the trail east from Kawata, which extends a few more miles. The house is on a little strip of Aha sandy loam. The Pacific surf is breaking on the edge of the reef in the distance."
