Description provided by photographer Roy Simonson reads: "One trench in the system dug by the Japanese on a hill about ½ mile south of Nakajin, northern Motobu peninsula. This is a rounded area of Red Podzolic soil from marine sediments and commands a view of much of the fringing plain."
