Landscape of bay near Koror, March 6, 1948
Description provided by photographer Roy Simonson reads: "The site of the former Korortown and the intervening bay from a high point on Arakabesan Island. This was the administrative center for the Japanese mandated islands. The ruins left from the city, once with 12,000 people, mainly Japanese, are now obscured by vegetation. Very few buildings were usable; mostly foundations remain. The hilly- uplands are mainly red Latosols from andesite. Blue... colors in the bay where the small ship is anchored are especially good."
