The papers of Noran Kersta span the years of 1935-1966. The majority of the papers are Kersta's personal correspondence within the period of 1945-1955. There are some reports, managerial procedures and some photographs within the collection. In addition, there are some personal clippings and articles that Kersta kept either because of personal interest in the content or because he wrote them or is mentioned in the article. The collection is particularly important because of the information it provides about the early development of television prior to World War II. Items of particular note are the WNBT schedule rate cards.
This collection is open to the public and must be used in the Special Collections reading room. Researchers must register and agree to copyright and privacy laws before using this collection.
The majority of this series is Kersta's personal correspondence. The series contains NBC correspondence, congratulatory notes, and commendations. Miscellaneous folders contain letters related to specific individuals or about an event. Folders are arranged chronologically. Within the folders the items are in reverse chronological order.
This series contains a variety of reports which are arranged in chronological order and include the WNBT station schedule cards and studies about television. A group of reports at the end of the series are managerial in nature and arranged in separate chronological run. In part, these deal with the development plan, the creation of Tri-County Broadcasting, and the eventual sale to Storer Broadcasting. In addition, three folders appear to deal with advisory work done by Kersta's personal company.
