Ben Yomen was a cartoonist from the 1930s to the 1990s. This collection consists of 40 original cartoons published in Federated Press Publications and CIO News and 10 items of printed materials including printed cartoons (with the originals part of the collection), an exhibit folder from the University of Michigan, Ben Yomen's business card, and an United Automobile Workers Solidarity article. This collection has many items from the 1940s, including many drawings related to the Second World War and its aftermath, as well as cartoons depicting topics important to labor organizations.
Ben Yomen donated the cartoons and printed matter to the George Meany Memorial Archives in 2003. The George Meany Memorial Archives transferred these records as part of a major transfer of their archive and library holdings to the University of Maryland Libraries in 2013.
This collection was accessioned but unprocessed by the George Meany Memorial Archives. In the summer of 2019, Allison Riehl reviewed the collection, the records from the George Meany Memorial Archives and the accession record available on ArchivesSpace. A preliminary inventory was created. Jen Eidson and Allison Riehl determined two series for the collection based on the materials and the creator's distinction. Cartoons were placed in acid-free folders.
