This collection documents Peter S. Zakroff's work as an independent instructional designer, writer and producer of training programs for a number of national labor unions from 1970-1999. His programs covered topics including political action, lobbying and campaigning, employee benefits, effective communications, and responsibilities and advantages of union membership for the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), the American Postal Workers Union (APWU), the International Ladies Garment Workers Union (ILGWU), and other labor organizations. Included are scripts, storyboards, slide presentations, videos, instructors’ guides and workbooks.
This collection is open to the public and must be used in the Maryland room. Researchers must register and agree to copyright and privacy laws before using this collection.
Photocopies or digital surrogates may be provided in accordance with Special Collections and University Archives duplication policy. Copyright resides with the creators of the documents or their heirs unless otherwise specified. It is the researcher's responsibility to secure permission to publish materials from the appropriate copyright holder. The programs covered a wide variety of topics including political action, lobbying and campaigning, employee benefits, effective communications and writing, responsibilities and advantages of union membership, union democracy and operations, steward training, grievance administration and on-the-job training. The materials were developed for the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), the American Postal Workers Union (APWU), the International Ladies Garment Workers Union (ILGWU), the International Organization of Masters, Mates and Pilots (MMP), Transportation Communications Union (TCU), The United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America (UBC), the National Rural Letter Carriers' Association (NRLCA) and other labor organizations. Included are scripts, storyboards, slide presentations, videos, instructors’ guides and workbooks in the form of written scripts, cartoons, VHS tapes, photographic slides, audiocassettes, floppy disks, and CDS. Peter S. Zakroff's scope of work beyond labor unions is not included in these materials.

This collection has been minimally processed. The processing archivist maintained the original order of materials, which arrived in binders grouped according to project. Materials were removed from binders and placed in acid-free folders. The collection was originally housed in 3 but consolidated to 2 paige boxes.
