The R. Sumter Griffith papers were originally processed in April 1973. All materials were removed from their original folders or envelopes, unfolded and flattened, and placed in acid-free folders in an acid-free box. Photographs were transferred to the photograph collection. In June 1996, two series were formally created within the R. Sumter Griffith papers. The photographs were placed into separate acid-free envelopes, and the guide was revised.
