Recordings, 1939-2012, undated
Series 12 contains unreleased and commercial recordings of ensembles conducted by McGinnis, including the OSU Concert Band, Southeastern Ohio Symphony Orchestra, and bands at the Midwest Clinic and Ohio Music Educators Association conventions. This series also contains unreleased and commercial recordings of McGinnis as a solo and chamber music clarinetist and flutist. Solo and chamber music recordings of note include McGinnis's recitals as an undergraduate at Oberlin, a radio broadcast with the US Navy Band, a chamber music concert with the Walden String Quartet, and OSU Faculty Woodwind Quintet recitals. Additional recordings are from and of former flute and clarinet students, many of which are inscribed to McGinnis. Recording formats include 78 RPM discs, LPs, magnetic reels, audio cassettes, and compact discs.

Series 12 is arranged in two sub-series: Sub-Series 1, Recordings of McGinnis; and Sub-Series 2, Collected and Inscribed Recordings of Others.
Appraisal
In 2018, over 100 recordings were de-accessioned because McGinnis reformatted recordings that exist as original formats in the collection. Additional recordings were de-accessioned because they were not related to McGinnis's career as a performer, conductor, clinician, or educator.
