Descenes – Issue 4 – December 1979
The December 1979 issue of Descenes, a tabloid fanzine that focused on the punk and underground music cultures in the Washington, D.C. area. Descenes editor Howard Wuelfing was an important early participant in the D.C. underground music scene, both as a musician (Slickee Boys, Nurses, Half Japanese) and as a fanzine creator (Descenes, Discords). This issue of Descenes includes an interviews and features with the Westminster, Maryland band Half Japanese... and the Washington, D.C. punk bands Bad Brains, Loverspike, Killer Bees, The Bludgeons, and Snitch (members of whom went on to form the notable D.C. punk band Black Market Baby). It also includes contributions from notable figures like Jim Testa (Jersey Beat fanzine), Bill Asp (Wasp Records, Record and Tape Exchange), and D.C. music journalist Mark Jenkins.
