Bound (soft) manuscripts: "Body Movement", 1976-1979

 Sub-Series

The collection contained three versions of a text with two different titles: “Body/Space/Effort: Movement as Art, Discipline and Therapy” and “Body/Space/Effort: Coping with the Environment”. Two versions have the first title, housed in red and blue binders. The Blue binder copy appears to be an original per the paper type and the fact of insertions stapled, glued, and taped to the pages. The contents were transferred to 10 file folders, with the designation “Blue Copy”. The contents of the red binder, mostly photocopies of the pages in the Blue copy with additional pages (see footnote) were transferred to 15 file folders. This version includes some manual editing marks and notes, as well as the photocopied edits (there are, however, differences such as additions and deletions). Preservation issues are inherent in the staples, tape, and glue.

The second title is contained on three volumes in red binding (not ‘binders). Each has preservation issues with regards to tape being the form of adhesive holding the captions onto the backs of the photocopied illustrations. Placeholders are inserted to note the placement of the tape. Edits from earlier drafts are embedded in the photocopies, as are new edits. A Few placeholders are also within the text (in Bartenieff’s hand). Also of note is that some of the text in these drafts did not make it into the final published text: e.g. pages 111-113 in Volume 1 of 3 on Chordic tensions is not included.
