The United States Marine Band, 1922-2004
This series contains materials relating to this ensemble, of which Slater was a member between 1937 and 1947. This series includes a large number of newspaper clippings relating to the Marine Band and its members. In addition to containing correspondence with band members and leaders, this series contains a large collection of Marine Band programs from 1922 to 1996. This series contains more than 140 concert, dinner, and meeting programs of the United States Marine Band, the Alfalfa Club, the Gridiron Club, the Military Order of the Barabao, and the Marine Corps Women's Reserve. It contains promotional materials and histories, including flyers, posters, and greeting cards promoting the Marine band, as well as magazine articles and pamphlets on the history of the ensemble. Finally, the series is valuable for its significant number of materials relating to specific actions undertaken by the band, including tour itineraries, rank and grade restrictions on bandleaders, authorization for marine Band trips, and copies of documents regarding legal issues involving the band.
