This collection includes 102 cassette tapes of performances of the chorus in venues in the United States and abroad from 1976-1995. It also includes posters, photographs, and clothing related to the UMD Chorus.

The collection is open for research use. Materials from this collection must be used in the Michelle Smith Performing Arts Library's Irving and Margery Morgan Lowens Special Collections Room during SCPA’s operating hours. Conditions Governing Use

Copyright was not transferred to the University of Maryland with the gift of any copyrighted materials. All rights remain with the creators and rights holders. The University of Maryland Libraries is granted permission for the use in scholarly research by the Libraries’ patrons under fair use in Section 107 of the U.S. Copyright Act.

Duplication of the recordings in this collection is not permitted.

Historical Note

Charles Serpan (1934-2019) was a graduate of Ohio University and the University of Maryland. Serpan worked at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission for most of his career and was appointed to the position of Nuclear Safety Attache to the U.S. Mission in Vienna, Austria. Serpan was a member of the UMD Community Chorus and was also a donor to the University Archives. Recordings in the collection were made by Serpan with a hand-held, personal tape recorder.
