Karen Kohn Bradley papers

Karen Kohn Bradley (b. 1951) is a dancer, scholar, educator, and movement therapist. She was an Associate Professor in Dance at the University of Maryland, College Park, from 1999 to 2017. Bradley also studied and practiced as a movement therapist, attaining certification in Laban Movement Analysis and Bartenieff Fundamentals as a Certified Movement Analyst. She has worked with a diverse array of people on a wide range of subjects ranging from nonverbal communication techniques to injuries and movement disorders. The Karen Kohn Bradley papers cover the period from 1940-2014; the bulk of the materials date from 1980-2011. The collection consists of research materials, oral history interviews, photographic slides, and audio and video recordings relating to Bradley's research and teaching during her time in the School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies as a dance professor at the University of Maryland.

The collection consists of research materials, oral history interviews, photographic slides, and audio and video recordings relating to Bradley's research and teaching during her time in the School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies as a dance professor at the University of Maryland.

Biographical / Historical

Karen Kohn Bradley (b. 1951) is a dancer, scholar, educator, and movement therapist. She was an Associate Professor in Dance at the University of Maryland, College Park, from 1999 to 2017. Bradley also studied and practiced as a movement therapist, attaining certification in Laban Movement Analysis and Bartenieff Fundamentals as a Certified Movement Analyst. Bradley has worked with a diverse array of people on a wide range of subjects ranging from nonverbal communication techniques to injuries and movement disorders.

Bradley has published widely on dance and dance education, as well as authoring a monograph on the life and work of the modern dance pioneer Rudolph Laban for Routledge Publishing. In addition, she has organized and run community-based dance practice groups. Bradley oversees the newspaper, The Eastern Shore Cooperator, in Nova Scotia, where she resides, as of 2023. She also hosts workshops, movement coaching sessions, and leadership trainings.
