Randy Nordschow (1969-2019) was an American composer and sound artist. He earned a Bachelor of Music degree in film music compostion at the Berklee College of Music in 1994 and a Master of Arts in music compostion at Mills College in 2002. The dates for the materials in this collection range from 1986 to 2008. The collection includes audio-visual recordings of Nordschow's compositions, press kits and personal copies of music that Nordschow owned, manuscripts of pieces, and published versions of his compositions.
The collection is open for research use. Materials from this collection must be used in the Michelle Smith Performing Arts Library's Irving and Margery Morgan Lowens Special Collections Room during SCPA’s operating hours. The Randy Nordschow papers cover the years 1986 to 2008. The items within this collection include audio-visual recordings of Nordschow's compositions, press kits and personal copies of music that Nordschow owned, manuscripts of pieces, and published versions of his compositions.
Randy Nordschow (1969-2019) was an American composer and sound artist. Born in Los Angeles on December 28, 1969, Nordschow earned a Bachelor of Music degree in film music composition at the Berklee College of Music in 1994 and a Master of Arts in music composition at Mills College in 2002. While at Mills College, Nordschow studied composition with Alvin Curran and Pauline Oliveros. Nordschow initially resided and composed within the San Francisco Bay Area, but relocated to New York City in 2003. Nordschow's music dealt with the relationship between the act of performaning and sound. It also drew upon aspects of visual arts which in results in works being seen as performance art and video-performance art. Nordschow also worked as an associate editor for the online music publication NewMusicBox from 2003 to 2008 while living in New York City. Nordschow died following a brief illness on February 15, 2019.
