Abstract University of Maryland (UMD) Professor Emeritus Alcine Joseph Wiltz, III was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on March 16, 1941. He was a professor of dance at UMD from 1983 to 2008, and he was the chair of the department of dance there from 1983 to 2004. In 1976, he co-founded the Mid America Dance Company (MADCO), now known as the Modern American Dance Company.
