An assembly walking to the school grounds in Shioya, Okinawa, for the Festival for the Sea God (Umigami). Description provided by photographer Roy Simonson reads: "The festival flag and a part of the crew moving from the assembly area near our quonset (the tarpaulin fence to right surrounds the hut) to the school grounds for the dances."

The bamboo canes are for the flailing of heads that will not stay down in the front rows."

Gil Corwin, one of the party, is out with the boys on the beach."

Timbers in foreground are for another house, concrete floors are where the other quonsets of the old PT-boat base stood. Children playing on the timbers. Mountain slopes in sweet potatoes."
