Ibu valley, July 26, 1947
Description provided by photographer Roy Simonson reads: "A part of Ibu valley above the village of that name, about a half mile north of Ada, Okinawa. This shows ripe rice in the floodplain, the Ada-Oku trail along the stream channel, and poor forest on the Lithosols of the upland. The light green patches on the uplands are ferns."
Landscape of footbridge to Miyagi Shima, September 27, 1947
Description provided by photographer Roy Simonson reads: "Footbridge across from Okinawa to Miyagi Shima, the little island itself, and part of the mountainside in crops above Shioya. Soils are very dry and crops are poor because of recent lack of rain."
Mountain peak of Ibu Dake, July 26, 1947
Description provided by photographer Roy Simonson reads: "Ibu Dake, a mountain peak not far inland north of the village of Ada, Okinawa, and the valley leading up to it. The slopes within sight are mainly Lithosols but there are some Red and Yellow Podzolic soils from marine sediments. The terraced areas are mainly in sweet potatoes, but there are some other dry-land crops."
