Cut of limestone and soil, with small basket on top, April 16, 1948
Description provided by photographer Roy Simonson reads: "The abrupt boundary between limestone and the soil above it in the cut of a quarry near the village of Jahanna, western Motobu peninsula. This is Brown Forest soil from limestone. A small basket stands beside the wheat growing on the soil to the left."

Description provided by photographer Roy Simonson reads: "Okinawan tombs or hakas cut into the soft limestone near the main road north of Jahanna, western Motobu peninsula, since I left the island last fall. The plain beyond the limestone face includes some Nakasoni silt loam and some Brown Forest soils from limestone."
