Description provided by photographer Roy Simonson reads: "The broadleaf evergreen saplings or small trees in the dense stands that have come up on stony coral sand and stony land, Brown Forest soil materials from limestone, near the east coast of central Peleliu Island. This vegetation, now slightly higher than the reconnaissance truck on the road, has come up over most of Angaur and Peleliu Islands since bombing or gunfire killed the former vegetation 3 years ago."

Description provided by photographer Roy Simonson reads: "Melliemarrang, Palauan boat driver, standing on the backend of our LCVP (landing craft, vehicles and personnel) with a tuna caught trolling as we were on our way back to Korortown from a trip along the west side of Babelthuap Island. The trolling line is a light rope to which Mellie fastens a big 2-barbed hook baited with pieces of red and white cloth."

Description provided by photographer Roy Simonson reads: "Pandanus trees and grass along a footpath in an area probably once cleared and cultivated in patches, now burned frequently. This is a rounded ridge crest of red Latosols from andesitic agglomerates."
