Description provided by photographer Roy Simonson reads: "Badland faces and bluffs in miniature in the Baldok beds of volcanic tuff about 1/2 mile south of the village of Mengelang. Arekaland peninsula, north tip of Babelthuap Island. The tuffs have weathered to silt loams and silty clay loam. TWS [probably RWS, or Roy W. Simonson] to show scale."

This approximates the indigenous architecture of the islands, now largely gone. Banana plants and betelnut palms in foreground. This is in the village of Mengellang, northern Babelthuap."
