Abstract
The University of Maryland Percussion Program was established and led by Ron Barnett (b. February 2, 1938 - d. June 30, 2021). Best known as the timpanist with the Kennedy Center Opera and Ballet Orchestra in Washington D.C. from 1971 to 2002, he was also a former member of the U.S. Navy Band, as well as a member of the Marimba Masters, a marimba ensemble formed at the Eastman School of Music that gained wide critical acclaim.
