Abstract Albert F. Woods (1866-1948), a pioneer in plant virus research, was dean of the University of Minnesota College of Agricuture from 1910 to 1917, and president of the University of Maryland from 1917 to 1926. Later he was an assistant secretary in the United States Department of Agriculture, and president of the Land Grant College Association. Woods' wife, Bertha, wrote poems and children's literature.
