Research Department, 1939-1966 and undated

This subseries consists of correspondence; publications; questionnaires; negotiating documents; agreements; analyses; reports; transcripts of Congressional testimony; newspaper clippings; and such working papers as statistical data, membership rosters, and policy statements. The Research Department was responsible for compiling reports and wage rate data; processing cases before the Shipbuilding Commission and/or the National War Labor Board, including preparation of briefs; coordinating information-gathering with the Bureau of Labor Statistics; digesting Shipbuilding Commission and National War Labor Board directive orders; and reviewing proposed contracts, among other functions. The materials in this subseries have been arranged alphabetically by topic, following the correspondence files.
