Personal Affairs, 1927-1970
This subseries contains correspondence, agreements, membership cards, and entrance passes. Also included are speeches and manuscripts written by Byrd and other individuals, clippings of poetry and quotations, pamphlets, and guest books apparently from Byrd's memorial service. Important topics include banking and construction business, property agreements, state politics, Byrd's relationship with President Wilson Elkins and the University of Maryland, civic organizations, and personal matters. Dates range from 1927 to 1970, but major portions come from the 1955 to 1969 period.
