Processing Information

The George Meany Memorial Archives processed this collection only to the folder level because of staff limitations. The contents of a folder, therefore, have not been sorted or rearranged. Processors divided very thick files into multiple files so that some folders with the same label often cantain a mixture of the dates indicated on the folder label.

A large number of folders are filed under Brown's name; some of these are further labeled "Clippings" and "Writings". These contain correspondence, published and unpublished writings such as articles, reports and speeches, and extensive clippings about Brown's activities. The files labeled simply "Brown, Irving" with a date include both personal and professional correspondence but may also include writing and clippings.
