This subseries contains files related to Hogan’s work as the Representative for Maryland’s 5th District in the House of Representatives (1969-1975). These documents center around the constituent services Hogan and his administration provided for people in the 5th District of Maryland, and people from out-of-state. In addition, this subseries includes documents related to the various task forces and advisory committees that Hogan established to assist him with understanding the needs and concerns of his constituents and to create legislation to address those needs. The task forces and committees include: Education; Military and Veterans; Youth; Senior Citizens; Medical Technology; Recreation and Culture; Community Development; Crime; Environmental Control; Science and Technology; Human Needs; and Agriculture.

Materials include appointments, correspondence, invitations, recommendation and referral letters, telephone actions and messages, and responses to newsletter surveys and questionnaires. Most of the correspondence has the original letter and a carbon copy of Hogan’s reply. The correspondence includes congratulations, birthday, condolences, and courtesy letters Hogan sent to his constituents. Among the correspondence are letters from a couple of Hogan’s staff including Susan “Sue” Berger and Dixie Barger. Folders titled “Brag Book,” are letters from constituents congratulating Hogan for various accomplishments and legislation or thanking Hogan for his assistance on various concerns. Most of the letters were sent by citizens either living in Washington, D. C., or from Maryland’s 5th District. In addition, there are letters from school children thanking Hogan for coming to talk at their school. Invitations are from individuals, associations, and organizations, inviting Hogan to attend various meetings, programs, events, membership admittance, and speaking engagements.
