Media Activities, 1967-1974

This subseries contains files related to Hogan’s media presence and public relations activities as he performed his duties as Representative for Maryland’s 5th District in the House of Representatives (1969-1975). Hogan appeared on various radio and television shows, including WWDC (FM) Radio, NBC News Radio, the Barry Farber Show (on WMAL Radio), and Face the Nation on CBS, discussing a variety of topics from his congressional campaigns to legislation he was sponsoring in Congress. Hogan made speeches at many state and local events and before various groups, including the Volunteer Firemen’s Convention in Prince George’s County, the Prince George’s Jaycees, George Washington House Restoration Committee, the Chamber of Commerce Lobbying Clinic, and the Indiana Association of Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors State Convention. In addition, Hogan released a weekly newsletter called The Hogan Report, which summarized various events, issues, and legislation. He also wrote articles for various publications including the University of Maryland Law Forum, the Georgetown University Law Center journal, Res Ipsa Loquitur, and the National Association of Real Estate Board journal, Realtor. Many of these files contained duplicates of articles and Congressional Record pages that Hogan’s administration made to give to constituents.

Topics include: medical and health services; metro and transportation; pornography; American youths; media relations; crime; law enforcement; District of Columbia; inflation and the economy; police and firefighters; tax reform; drug abuse; Vietnam; Israel; school busing; education; Prayer Amendment; Impact Aid; the FBI and J. Edgar Hoover; the environment and pollution; Jewish citizens; the Soviet Union; election reform; patriotism; youths; veterans; pro-life and abortion; and government employees.

Materials include speeches, press releases, event programs, newspaper clippings, magazine articles, interviews, Congressional Record statements, photographs, and audiovisual materials.
