Content Description

Daniel J. Marschall was the Policy Specialist for Workforce Issues at the AFL-CIO from 2008-2016, during which time he served as a liaison between the AFL-CIO and President Obama's transition team. He later served as the Executive Director for the AFL-CIO Working for America Institute, but that work is not included in this collection. These materials document his work at the AFL-CIO regarding labor and workforce development, including research on offshoring, the Workforce Investment Act, community training materials, and the Labor Research and Action Network, as well as additional materials related to American labor organizations in the late 20th century.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

This collection was donated to the University of Maryland Libraries by Daniel J. Marschall on October 27, 2021.

Processing Information

The materials arrived in 4 Paige boxes from the donor containing paper records. During the inventory process conducted by Rosemarie Fettig in 2022, we were able to consolidate the materials into three boxes. Folders were left in the original order in which they were received, however, loose materials were foldered and put back in their original order. Devised folder headings were assigned as necessary. Materials were removed from 3-ring binders and placed in folders. Three pamphlets from Box 2 were removed from this collection for cataloging in McKeldin Library. Two other pamphlets from Box 2 were discarded because they are available elsewhere in the University Libraries and were not directly related to this collection
