Jackson R. Bryer was a professor in the English Department at the University of Maryland from 1964 to 2005. The Bryer papers cover the period 1947 to 2019 and consist of correspondence, manuscripts, galleys, and page proofs associated with Bryer's publications: Fifteen Modern American Authors (1969); Louis Auchincloss and His Critics (1977); F. Scott Fitzgerald: The Critical Reception (1978); William Styron: A Reference Guide (1978); "The Theatre We Worked For": The Letters of Eugene O'Neill to Kenneth Macgowan (1982); The Short Stories of F. Scott Fitzgerald: New Approaches in Criticism (1982); American Women Writers: Bibliographical Essays (1983); Conversations with Thornton Wilder (1992); The Playwright's Art: Conversations with Contemporary American Dramatists (1995); Dear Scott, Dearest Zelda: The Love Letters of F. This collection was donated to the University of Maryland Libraries by Jackson R. Bryer in 1978. Bryer also donated accruals to the collection from 2002 to 2020.
These materials were received by the University of Maryland Libraries from 1978 to 2020. Upon arrival, the materials were re-housed into archival quality boxes and placed in acid-free folders. Folders were left in the original order in which they were received and labeled according to publication title.
