The mission of the American Association of University Professors is "to advance academic freedom and shared governance, to define fundamental professional values and standards for higher education, and to ensure higher education's contribution to the common good." The College Park Chapter of the national faculty group was formed in the 1920s and remained active through the 1980s, addressing those issues at the university level. The records consist of publications and correspondence from the national level, as well as documentation of local activity, including the 1980 censure of the University of Maryland by the AAUP. Preliminary inventories are available in the "Additional Description" section of this finding aid.
