University Relations serves as the communications and marketing arm of the University of Maryland campus. Their records consist of news clippings, newsreels, videotapes, scrapbooks, faculty/staff files, committee files, correspondence, meeting minutes, photographs, film reels, video recordings, university publications, press releases, reports, speeches, and policy statements, among other records. University Relations actively transfers records to the University Archives, and this finding aid may not reflect the most recently added materials in this collection. Scope and Contents

The University Relations records consists of materials dated from 1927 to 2017 from the Division of University Relations. University Relations serves as the communications and marketing arm of the University of Maryland at College Park, MD. The holdings reflect the communications and marketing efforts of the Division, as well as its mission to advance the University of Maryland through philanthropy and engagement, both on-campus and globally. A large portion of the collection consists of moving images in VHS, DVD, or film reel formats concerning the Great Expectations capital campaign launched in 2006; footage of Dr. Wallace Loh's inauguration as president of the University of Maryland; news reports of the retirement for University of Maryland’s basketball coach Gary Williams; Terpvision interviews and memorial of groundskeeper Jerome “Duke” Sellers; University of Maryland choir's trip to Puerto Rico; and a film titled “Climate of Learning.” Additionally, the collection has several items related to Queen Elizabeth II and President Dwight D. Eisenhower's visit to a university football game in October 1957 such as a film reel of the football game and a scrapbook devoted to Queen Elizabeth. University Relations records also include news clippings, newsreels, faculty and staff files, committee files, correspondence, meeting minutes, photographs, university publications, press releases, reports, speeches, and policy statements. The collection also contains archived web crawls of TERP, an alumni magazine for the University of Maryland, College Park, and of UMD Right Now, a campus news and media relations website maintained by University Relations at the University of Maryland, College Park.

Custodial History and Acquisition Information

University Relations records were first transferred from the Office of University Relations to the University of Maryland Libraries in 1972. Subsequent donations were made in 1983, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2017, and 2022.
