Kuhn, Thomas S. [Historian (and later philosopher) of science at Harvard, Berkeley, Princeton, and MIT. His seminar on 19th-century thermodynamics, which SGB took in his junior year at Harvard, introduced SGB to the pleasures of research in history of science; SGB's seminar paper on the history of kinetic theory later developed into an 800-page book (The Kind of Motion We Call Heat, 1976).
