Diaries, 1916-1944, 1946-1964
There are 48 diaries/datebooks, 1916-1944, 1946-1964, and a telephone/address book in this series. The diaries are small leather or cloth covered, assorted colors, and are approximately 3" by 5", in size. Short entries, a name, place or one line, are written in pencil (black, red or blue) or ink. Some of the writing is faded and old cellophane tape has damaged some of the pages. Paper clips, which held business cards and newspaper clippings, have been removed; however, the rust from some have already caused discoloration.
The datebooks contain both professional and personal information. For example a list of Bonade's students each year (Curtis, Juilliard and private); their lesson times; rehearsal, performance and recording dates; clinic dates; dentist and doctor appointments; travel plans; birthdays; and deaths are recorded. In addition, Bonade used his diaries to keep track of his earnings. Extra items left in the diaries include business cards, newspaper clippings, maps, train schedules, address books, and dried flowers (1932, 1952, 1958). Most of the writing is in English with an occasional comment in French.
