Abstract WAMU is a public radio station owned by American University in Washington, D.C. Beginning in 1948 as a low-power, student-run radio station, WAMU was granted a non-commercial broadcast license in 1961 and joined the infant National Educational Radio Network, a predecessor to NPR. Weber (1912-2000) graduated from the University of Maryland in 1933 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and later served as Director of the Physical Plant at the university from 1946 to 1972.
